E.Jackson Memorial Scholarship

The E.Jackson Memorial Scholarship was created to perpetuate the memory of Mr Ebenezer Jackson – the second, and longest serving conductor of the Brisbane Municipal Concert Band.

Mr E.Jackson was elected to the position of conductor in 1908 and he held that position until his death in 1952. He was a master of music with expertise in conducting, composing, arranging concert band and choral music. It was said he never made a mistake in his writings which were always hand written with a nib and ink!

The scholarship began on the 18th of January 1957 at the committee meeting of the BMCB. A motion moved by the chairman Mr R.L Dunstan proposed that the sum of £50 per annum from the general funds of the band be allocated for the payment of tuition fees at the Queensland Conservatorium for playing members of the band.

Today the scholarship of $250 is awarded by the musical director to be used by the chosen band member for instrumental training and tuition on the instrument that the member plays in the band.

Applications for the E. Jackson Memorial Scholarship close in December each year and awarded at the AGM of the following year. To apply please fill out the following form or talk to David at rehearsal:
